The rescue efforts took place on April 14, according to a press release from the NFR on Sunday, April 20.

Around 8 AM, RPF personnel discovered three unclaimed bags lying unattended near Platform No. 1. On closer inspection, each bag was found to contain approximately 150 live frogs, totalling 450.

No individual came forward to claim ownership of the bags. The RPF team, acting swiftly, handed over the frogs to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Barak Valley Wildlife Division, Silchar, for rehabilitation and further action.

Officials stated that such rescue operations underline the importance of railway security forces not only in safeguarding passengers and railway property but also in protecting wildlife. Transporting frogs in bulk is often associated with illegal wildlife trade, as several species are protected under Indian wildlife laws.
