GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police arrested seven individuals involved in a series of burglaries and dacoities across the city. The arrests were made following an investigation into a home invasion reported by Pankaj Das on October 5, 2024, in which six armed assailants looted cash and valuables from his residence after breaking in through a window, tying him up, and threatening his family.

Following the filing of an FIR, a joint operation was launched by the Dispur and Hatigaon Police Stations under the supervision of the DCP (East). During the investigation, the police gathered evidence, linking the crime to similar incidents, including one reported at Hatigaon Police Station in September, where robbers targeted a residence, threatening an elderly woman and her caretaker.

With the aid of technical surveillance and human intelligence, investigators identified a group of suspects, including cab drivers and daily wage labourers with a history of similar offences. On October 23, 2024, a secret source tipped off the police about a planned robbery in the Chandmari area, leading to the arrest of four individuals—Abdul Razak, Mohidul Islam, Sukur Ali, and Kazimuddin Pradhani—in the early hours near Ganeshguri.

Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple house robberies, providing names of five additional accomplices. A team was dispatched to Dhubri district, where a joint operation by Guwahati and Dhubri police resulted in the arrest of three more suspects—Habesh Ali, Basha Sheikh, and Sahidul Bhuyan.

The police recovered two motorcycles, sharp weapons, cash amounting to Rs 4.6 lakh, gold jewellery, mobile phones, a weighing scale used for jewellery, a wristwatch, and 110 old coins suspected to be stolen from temples.

List of Arrested Suspects:
1. Mohidul Islam (20) – cab driver, from Mayar Char, Dhubri
2. Sukur Ali (23) – From Mayar Char, Dhubri
