Rising Water Levels In Brahmaputra Raises Concerns Of Flooding In Parts Of Assam

GUWAHATI: In a concerning development, the Brahmaputra River is predicted to experience a substantial increase in water levels, with a projected rise of 30 to 50 centimetres from Tuesday evening in comparison to Monday morning. This surge in water levels raises significant concerns for the safety of residents in the vicinity, particularly in areas such as NC Kurua Chapari and its surroundings.

Given the imminent threat of flooding, authorities are urging extreme caution to anyone planning to venture near the riverfront. With the heightened risk of water overflowing onto the banks, residents and visitors are strongly advised to exercise prudence and prioritize their safety.

Speaking to G Plus, a senior official from the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department said, "All ferry services have been suspended for the time being. It is a seasonal phenomenon and the rise in levels will continue for 3-4 days. Apart from floods in the approach roads, there won't be any major concerns. However, the level might increase more than 50 cm."
