GUWAHATI: A black panther that had been causing trouble for the past few days was successfully captured and confined in the Demow area of the Sivasagar district in Assam on Wednesday.
According to reports, the enigmatic huge cat had been terrorising the people for several months, leading forest officials to intervene.
Melanistic colour variants exist in both the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera onca), and the black panther is one of them.
The huge cat is predominantly found in Mount Kenya, Java, Southwestern China, Myanmar, and Nepal, as well as Malaya's equatorial rainforests. In India, it is found mostly in Kerala and Assam.
The capturing of the large cat was a notable success that provided comfort to those who had been living in fear for several months.
