Rahul Gandhi concedes defeat in Amethi, congratulates BJP

GUWAHATI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a press conference held on Thursday, May 23, conceded his defeat in Amethi.

He said, "I respect the decision taken by the citizens of the country. Clearly, they want Narendra Modi to be the Prime Minister of the country and I would like to extend my greetings to him on the win."

In Amethi, Rahul Gandhi is trailing behind with 233821 votes while BJP candidate Smriti Irani is leading with 257905 votes, according to latest trends updated on the website of the Election Commission of India. 

The counting of votes for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 started at 8 AM on the morning of May 23 and BJP-led NDA is leading in 349 of 543 seats.
