Pro-Khalistani Group SFJ Writes To ULFA (I) Supporting Independent Assam Demand

GUWAHATI: The pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) issued an open letter to ULFA-I on Tuesday, a day after ULFA-I stated that the threat made by SFJ to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appeared "unfortunate."

In the open letter, the SFJ expressed its support for the Assam independence movement led by ULFA-I.

The president of the SFJ, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, wrote in an open letter, "SFJ supports Assam's secession from India."

Pannu proposed that the ULFA-I hold a referendum to determine whether Assam should be independent.

"...in the same vein as the Khalistan Referendum, General Paresh (Baruah), you also announce that you will hold a referendum on the question, Should Indian-Occupied Assam Be an Independent Country?" Pannu stated in the letter.

He added, "SFJ announces that should ULFA-I declare to organise an independence referendum for Assam, SFJ will support the Assam Independence Referendum (AIR) by providing: All legal assistance and logistical guidance to ULFA-I for the conduct of the Assam Independence Referendum; Legal aid in presenting the case for Assam's independence to the United Nations."

It should be noted that the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) previously sent an open letter to SFJ in response to the group's threat against the Assam CM.
