GUWAHATI: All private satellite television channels have been asked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to adhere to the Programme and Advertising Code as prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the rules framed there under.

The advisory asked all channels to refrain from showing "anything obscene, defamatory, deliberate, false and suggestive innuendos and half-truths". Further, it states that channels should not "criticize, malign or slander any individual in person or certain groups, segments of the social, public, and moral life of the country."

The advisory was issued after actor Rakul Preet Singh pleaded in the Delhi High Court, accusing channels of defamatory programmes being run against her in connection with a drugs probe related to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

"All private satellite TV channels are requested to ensure compliance with the directions above,” the advisory read.
