President Ram Nath Kovind visits Gauhati University

As part of his maiden trip to Northeast India, President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday visited Assam’s premier education institute Gauhati University.

The President was accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who is glad to visit Gauhati University thanked the officials of the university for holding a civic honour for him.

Sonowal while crediting Gauhati University of creating an identity around the world extended heartiest thanks to Ram Nath Kovind for visiting the significant educational institute of the region. He said, "The University symbolises the Assamese society. The institute played an important role during Assam Movement and it will continue to play a vital role for the development of Assam." Sonowal further announced that the State Govt is committed to make Assam free from illegal foreigners, corruption, pollution and militancy.

Himanta Biswa Sarma on the other hand raised the issue of NRC while delivering speech at the institute, and said that the NRC is expected to solve both crisis of identity and developmental issues in the state. He further announced that in next five years, there will be one college in every constituency of the state.
