GUWAHATI: President Ramnath Kovind presented the Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Decorations at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday in which two riflemen from Assam were awarded.
Rifleman Rathva Lilesh Bhai, 4th Battalion, Assam Rifles was honoured with the Shaurya Chakra.
“He displayed gallantry, with utter disregard to his own safety, as well as tactical acumen to eliminate two terrorists and injure two more in Manipur,” President Kovind tweeted from his official Twitter handle.
Further, Rifleman Jaiprakash Oraon of 4th Battalion, Assam Rifles was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. Oraon was martyred during an operation in Manipur and had killed two terrorists while being grievously injured.
