Preparations Underway For Independence Day Celebrations In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: As the nation gears up to celebrate its 77th Independence Day, meticulous arrangements are being put in place for the state-level celebration of the event at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara. A series of directives have been issued to ensure that the ceremony proceeds smoothly.

A noteworthy aspect of the event is the involvement of Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters in a symbolic gesture of dropping flower petals at a designated location during the hoisting of the National Flag. The District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), in consultation with the Air Officer Commanding of the IAF Station in Borjhar, will oversee this arrangement.

To facilitate this, the Public Works Department (PWD) has been entrusted with the task of ensuring the availability of essential equipment such as a road roller and an adequate supply of stone dust at the venue on the morning of August 15.

Further enhancements have been introduced to the traditional plan for the march-past and inspection of the Guard of Honour on Independence Day. This revised plan was submitted by the Inspector General of Police (Training and Armed Police), Assam.

In order to facilitate the smooth functioning of parade rehearsals, arrangements for bio-toilets have been mandated by the Police Housing Estate (PHE).

As a cultural component of the celebration, a dance drama centred around the inspiring figure of Swahid Kanaklata is set to be performed. The Department of Culture has taken the initiative to organise this performance, which is expected to last for approximately 18 minutes.
