GUWAHATI: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader and former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said the party did not consult him with regards to the AGP-BJP Alliance in Assam and he expressed his displeasure over the AGP's decision to rejoin the alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I am against this alliance with the BJP and I am firm on my stand. At this moment, it is difficult for me to comment on why the AGP leaders took the decision. The party leaders have taken the decision on their own. We now have to ascertain what our district committees and grassroots workers want,” said Mahanta.

“I was not aware of this. I came to know about the party’s decision only this morning through the media,” he added.

It is to be mentioned that in an unexpected late night development on March 12 the AGP and BJP have decided to jointly fight the Lok Sabha 2019 elections in Assam.

After this discussion, the parties have decided to work together in the upcoming Parliament election in Assam to defeat Congress. This was announced by Ram Madhav at Guwahati in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma of BJP and Atul Bora and Keshav Mahanta of AGP. BPF will be the 3rd partner in the alliance.
