GUWAHATI: The condition of the roads near the Ulubari flyover has become a source of growing frustration and concern among the public, due to sheer ignorance and neglect of the authorities.

This frustration is especially evident on rainy days when the road from Manipuri Basti to Lachit Nagar becomes increasingly difficult to navigate, turning it into an accident-prone zone.
Speaking to GPlus, a resident of Ulubari stated, "The road conditions have greatly deteriorated over the last few months. It’s now affecting the smooth flow of traffic, as people slow down to avoid the potholes. This leads to traffic congestion during peak hours."
"The roads are not at all safe. They become very muddy and slippery on rainy days, which can lead to accidents. On dry days, the dust becomes an issue for people with breathing problems and allergies. I request the authorities to fix the road as soon as possible," said a daily commuter, voicing his frustration.
Meanwhile, another resident pointed out similar deterioration in roads across the city, stating, "In the last few years, all these roads were built and repaired by the authorities. Now they’re breaking them down again for various projects, and they’re doing it in a reckless and haphazard manner, which is inconveniencing the public."
"Almost every road is in a similarly bad condition, from the junction at Paltan Bazar to the one in front of the High Court, the Rajgarh road and even at the junction near Dighalipukhri. This is one of the reasons for the growing traffic congestion in the city, and they should really address it and repair the roads as soon as possible," he added.
A PWD official talking to GPlus said, "It is because of rain and various construction by other departments like Jal Board," adding that restoration is also poor. He said that before Durga Puja the area will be repaired.
With several construction projects ongoing in the city, traffic congestion was already an issue. However, this careless disregard for people's safety needs to be immediately addressed, especially in light of the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.
