Post Tajia Incident, Dibrugarh SP Transferred

GUWAHATI: Just after three days of the Muharram rally incident, the Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police (SP), Subashini Shankaran has been transferred to the 10th Assam Police Battalion (APBn) on September 13.

In a notification issued by the Assam Home Department,Subashini Sankaran, IPS has been transferred and posted Commandant, 10th Assam Police Battalion, Kahilipara with effect from the date of taking overcharge.

In the meanwhile, Gautam Bora, APS, Commandant, 10th Assam Police Battalion, Kahilipara is transferred and posted as SP Dibrugarh with effect from the date of taking charge from Subashini Sankaran.

Earlier on September 10 during a Tajia procession in Dibrugarh, two men, Furkan Hussain and Javed Akhtar Khan, were arrested in connection with the case where a mob, while participating in Tajia rally on the occasion of Muharram in Dibrugarh, damaged several vehicles which were parked on the road.

Locals alleged that the miscreants were carrying sharp weapons and began destroying whatever came in their way.

However, in less than 24 hours after their arrest, the two accused in the Tajia rally violence case in Dibrugarh were granted bail.

It is to be mentioned that prior to this Subashini Sankaran became the first woman IPS officer to be put in charge of a Chief Minister's security. In July 2016 she took charge of security for Assam's CM Sarbananda Sonowal.
