Policemen Allegedly Loot Rs 20 Lakh From Woman in Guwahati, 3 Arrested

GUWAHATI: The Dispur Police have arrested three of their men for allegedly looting Rs 20 lakh from a woman on July 26.

According to report, a woman from Mizoram carrying Rs 20 lakh was allegedly looted by three police personnel in Guwahati on July 25 evening at around 6:40 PM followed by which the victim lodged a complaint in the Dispur Police Station at 8:00 PM.

The three accused have been identified as Sub-Inspectors (SI) Hiranya Pathari, Probationer SI Pranjal Bora of Hatigaon Police Station and one Home Guard from Dispur PS Bipul Hazarika. 

Speaking to G Plus, Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar confirmed the incident and said, "If found guilty, speedy action will be taken against all three accused."

The victim was accompanied by her family along with a local guide named Prakash Sonar from Kohima. They were moving in an Innova car with the money. 

While on their way, the vehicle was stopped by these police personnel in front of Hotel Vivanta by Taj at Khanapara and conducted a check during which they came across the money. The police personnel told them that they will conduct an investigation and all three of them got away with the money.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, Deepak Kumar said, “We have recovered the Rs. 20 lakh from them along with the Innova car that was used in the crime. The mastermind of the whole incident, Prakash Sonar conducted this loot along with those police officials have been arrested. All the people involved in the incident have been arrested while the driver is absconding.”
