According to Farnaj Riya Mozumder, Mozumder's wife, the police initially arrived with a female constable but returned without one for the second raid. “A police team raided our home early in the morning at around 4:30 AM, taking away some documents. They returned after nearly 30 minutes and seized the remaining papers, but this time, they did not bring lady police officer,” she told GPlus. “They took 53 crucial documents, including ID proofs, vehicle documents, and bank papers.”
Mozumder, a journalist with a Guwahati-based web portal, was arrested on March 25 on the charge of insulting a Scheduled Tribe staff of the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank among other charges. He was granted bail on March 26, and released from jail on March 27 only to be rearrested in another case.
According to an FIR filed by the bank’s Managing Director, D. Saikia, in the second case Mozumder allegedly entered the first floor of the bank’s head office in Panbazar on March 25 at around 12:30 PM and attempted to steal crucial documents. At the time, he was covering a protest demonstration against alleged corruption in the bank.
He is expected to move for bail when produced in court on Friday, March 28.
