The arrest followed a complaint alleging that Sapan Das demanded the bribe in connection with executing a warrant.

Unwilling to comply, the complainant approached the Directorate, leading to the organisation of a trap near Sambhusagar Park Road, Sribhumi Town erstwhile Karimganj.

During the operation, Sapan Das was apprehended immediately after accepting the bribe. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Following sufficient evidence against the accused, he was arrested and charged under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). A case has been registered at the ACB Police Station (Case No. 91/2024), and further legal actions are underway.
