Police Detain IIT Guwahati Student Who Wanted To Join ISIS

 

GUWAHATI: Police detained the IIT-Guwahati student, who had earlier in the day declared his allegiance to ISIS and said he was on his way to join the terrorist group, at Hajo on March 23 evening.

Director General of Police, Assam, GP Singh also updated this on X.

“Reference IIT Guwahati student pleading allegiance to ISIS - the said student has been detained while travelling and further lawful follow up would take place,” the tweet read.

An official from CID informed GPlus that the student was caught in Hajo.

Earlier today, Tauseef Ali Farooqui, a student of IIT-Guwahati declared in an “open letter” on LinkedIn that he was headed to join ISIS after having done his “repentance” for having “ignorantly strayed.”

He had earlier said that his journey would begin from Pan Bazar and dared anybody to confront him.

Farooqui on his account claimed that he was a fourth-year student of B.Tech Biotechnology at IIT-Guwahati where he has been studying since November 2020.

Further investigation is underway.
