GUWAHATI: The Assam State Zoo in Guwahati has named its newborn lion cubs. Assam Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary announced on X, that the cubs born to lioness 'Kesari' have been named Jaya and Vijaya, while those born to lioness 'Rani' have been named Durga and Devika—names symbolizing strength, victory, and divinity.

Earlier, on March 22, the Assam State Zoo also expanded its wildlife diversity by welcoming seven new species as part of an animal exchange program with Chhatbir Zoo in Punjab. Among the newly acquired species are the Comb Duck, Chukar Partridge, and Java Sparrow.
