Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Reopens For 2024-25 Season

GUWAHATI: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has reopened on October 14 for the 2024-25 tourist season after its seasonal monsoon closure. 

The reopening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika, Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council Jiban Chandra Konwar, and officials from the Assam Forest Department.

The sanctuary is renowned for having the highest density of one-horned rhinoceros in the world. Visitors can explore its rich biodiversity through safari tours, with twenty jeeps and thirteen elephants available for guided excursions.

Located in the suburbs of the capital city of Guwahati, the grasslands of Pobitora offer sightings of the Greater One Horned Rhinoceros, Wild Water Buffalo, Monitor Lizard, Wild Boar, and over 375 species of birds.

The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary had been closed since May.
