This year’s theme "Peace and Harmony for Prosperous Bharat," the Mahotsav aims to foster unity and honour the cultural identity of the indigenous Bodo people not only in Bodoland but also in Assam, West Bengal, Nepal, and other regions bordering Northeast India. A special focus will be placed on promoting the rich traditions and linguistic heritage of the Bodo and other communities within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The festival is to mark the progress since the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord in 2020, an agreement that brought an end to decades of conflict and violence in Bodoland.
Key sessions include “The Rich Bodo Culture, Tradition, and Literature Contributing to Indian Heritage and Traditions,” which will feature discussions on Bodo language, literature, and customs. Another session on “Challenges and Opportunities of Mother Tongue Medium-of-Instruction under the National Education Policy 2020” will address education in the Bodo language. Additionally, a thematic discussion on “Indigenous Cultural Meet & Building a Vibrant Bodoland through Culture & Tourism” will be held aiming to encourage tourism in the Bodoland region.
Over 5,000 cultural enthusiasts, including participants from Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and neighbouring countries Nepal and Bhutan, are expected to attend this event celebrating Bodoland’s rich heritage.
