GUWAHATI: A Tamil Nadu government doctor was stabbed multiple times in the neck at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital (KCSSH) in Guindy, Chennai, on Wednesday morning, November 13.
The assailant, identified as M. Vignesh, is reportedly a patient’s family member who suspected the doctor of prescribing incorrect medication to his mother, a cancer patient.
The doctor, identified as Balaji Jagannath, is currently in critical condition in the ICU.
According to police, the suspect obtained an outpatient entry pass and entered the Department of Oncology, where Dr. Jagannath was on duty. Vignesh attempted to flee the scene after the attack but was apprehended by hospital staff and handed over to the police. Four others who accompanied him have also been detained for questioning.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in a statement on the social media platform X, described the incident as shocking and confirmed that the suspect was immediately arrested. The case is under investigation, and Vignesh has been remanded in judicial custody.
