PM Modi's Candlelight Appeal saw 471 MW Dip in Power Consumption in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) saw a reduction of power consumption by 471 MW on Sunday, April 5 at 9 PM.

It is to be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked citizens to switch off lights for nine minutes at 9 pm on Sunday and light candles and torches to “challenge the darkness of the coronavirus crisis that has forced a three-week country-wide lockdown.”

Addressing a press meet, Assam State Health Minister thanked each and every citizen of Assam for making PM Modi's appeal a success and said that reduction of power demand dropped by 471 MW during 9 PM for 9 minutes.

"99% of the people of the state supported the cause, however the remaining one percent is nothing but the essential service such as hospitals and streetlights which had to remain functioning," the minister added.
