GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today on November 19, 2022, inaugurated Arunachal Pradesh’s (AP) first Greenfield, Donyi Polo Airport, in the Hollongi area of Itanagar. This has been done in a bid to boost connectivity and tourism in the state.

The foundation stone for Donyi Polo Airport was laid by PM Modi in February 2019. Governor of AP, Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra said the airport will provide easy travelling facilities for medical emergencies and investors. Moreover, it will facilitate students studying in other states and travellers for easy movement.

The airport is named after the popularly admired deity, Donyi Polo. The deity is revered by the indigenous communities of the state. The airport will help the people of Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring state of Assam, particularly the upper Assam districts realise a significant dream.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) spent around 645 crores developing the Donyi Polo Airport. According to a representative, it will have eight check-in counters and can seat 200 passengers during peak times, as said by an official.
