PM Modi Announces Plan To Create 85,000 R&D Professionals In Two Years

 

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a CEOs roundtable during his US visit on September 23, outlined India’s ambitious plan to create 85,000 new research and development (R&D) professionals, within the next one to two years.

Speaking at the roundtable, he emphasised the nation’s emerging role in the global tech sector, highlighting that the country boosts a 20% stake in semiconductor design, and has also launched the ‘Design in India’ initiative to boost indigenous innovations.

"India has a strong legal framework for protecting intellectual property rights," stated Modi, underscoring the nation's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for technological growth.

He also touched on India's recently enacted data protection law, which he believes will enhance data governance and aid businesses. Modi went on to reaffirm India’s leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), noting that the country is one of the first to establish a comprehensive AI strategy.

Lastly, he stressed the need for a global digital governance model and advocated for the use of watermarks to combat the spread of deepfake videos.
