GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on July 3, sanctioned ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs each for next of kin of persons who lost their lives due to the floods that has wreaked havoc in Assam.
According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) nearly 16,03,255 people are affected in 22 districts of Assam. The 22 affected districts of Assam include Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Nalbari and Barpeta among others.

The announcement comes after PM Modi, over telephone, spoke with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and discussed the situation in the wake of flooding and landslides in parts of the state.
