PFI Member Arrested In Assam

GUWAHATI: An absconding member of the Popular Front of India (PFI) was arrested in Nagarbera under Assam’s Kamrup district on May 16.

Talking To G Plus, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Kamrup, stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Nagarbera Police Station, Mirel Ahmed had carried out a raid and arrested the PFI member who was allegedly on the run for 8 months after the centre had imposed a ban on the organisation. 

The arrested PFI member has been identified as one Abdul Rezzak Ali, 27 years of age.

Following the arrest, Abdul was sent to judicial custody today.

The Central government has banned the Popular Front of India (PFI), its associates, and its affiliates as an unlawful association with immediate effect for a period of five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement through a notification issued late on Tuesday night, declaring "the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect".
