Petrol price rise irks Guwahati customers

The price of petrol touched a new high in Guwahati on Sunday, May 20, with petrol being priced at Rs 78.37 per litre, irking customers in the city.

The cost of the fuel has been rising continuously over the past week. The price of petrol began at Rs 76.87 on May 14 and saw an upward trend throughout the week.
“The cost of petrol was already at a high and it is now further increasing every day.

For people belonging to the middle-class, the expense on petrol takes a huge toll on the monthly budget and the rising prices are making matters worse,” said Ashish Majumdar, a city-based entrepreneur.

On Sunday, the petrol price saw a rise of 34 paise from Saturday while before that the price rose by 31 paise, 30 paise, 23 paise, 16 paise and 14 paise each day.

Another resident said that the government must step in during such situations and should reduce the excise duties on petrol so that the customers get some respite from the constant increase in costs.
