Persistent Pipe Leak At Guwahati's NS Road Puts GJB Under Fire

GUWAHATI: A prolonged water pipe leakage at NS Road in Fatasil has stirred public concern, once again bringing the Guwahati Jal Board’s (GJB) responsiveness into question.

The issue came to light after a local resident flagged the leakage, which has remained unattended for the past few days. The water, continuously seeping onto the main road, has inconvenienced commuters and raised fears of further road deterioration.

“It has been the same since the last two days. No repairs have been done yet,” said the resident, highlighting the apparent inaction of the concerned authorities.

Speaking to GPlus, a GJB official responded to the concerns, stating, “There is no need to worry, we have engineers deployed at that location. As the Narakasur-Sonaighuli connection needs to be commissioned, flushing has been ongoing. The road repairs will be done by PWD.”

However, the assurance has done little to calm the public, as such instances of leakage followed by delayed road restoration have become increasingly frequent in Guwahati. Residents argue that even when technical flushing or testing is required, proper communication and timely surface repair should be prioritised to avoid hazards and public inconvenience.

The Public Works Department (PWD), tasked with the final road restoration, is yet to comment on the expected timeline for repairs.

With growing pressure from citizens and the frequency of recurring leaks, questions continue to be raised over the coordination between GJB and PWD, and whether infrastructure planning is keeping pace with the city's development needs.
