GUWAHATI: Following the execution of all the four Nirbhaya convicts, hangman Pawan Jallad left for Uttar Pradesh's Meerut amid tight security arrangements.

Pawan (57) said, "For the first time in my life, I'm happy to execute four convicts. I had been waiting for this day for long. I thank God and the Tihar jail administration."

Pawan was chosen by the Tihar Jail administration to hang the four Nirbhaya gang rape-murder convicts. He is the only "certified" hangman in Uttar Pradesh, attached to the Meerut jail and gets a monthly salary of Rs 3,000.

The Tihar jail authorities have fixed Rs 20,000 as the sum to be paid to Pawan per hanging. This would mean, he would earn Rs 80,000 for all the four hangings.

Earlier today the four convicts in the gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old student have been hanged at Delhi's Tihar Jail ar 5:30 AM.

Reportedly, hundreds of people, carrying the national flag and shouting slogans of "long live Nirbhaya" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai", gathered outside the Tihar Jail, with some of them distributing sweets after the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case were executed.
