Partha Sarathi Mahanta Dedicates National Film Award To Hargila Army

 

Mahanta’s Hargila-The Greater Adjutant Stork documents the Hargila conservation activities of the women led by Purnima Devi Barman

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police, Admin and STF,  Assam, whose short film Hargila-The Greater Adjutant Stork won the National Film Award in the 'Special Mention' category, has dedicated the award to the Hargila Army, led by Purnima Devi Barman.

The  National Film Awards declared last month were presented on Tuesday, October 8.

Under Barman’s leadership, the women of the Dadara Pasaria area have successfully saved one of the world’s top twenty most endangered species from extinction, marking a significant achievement in global conservation.

The film, directed by Mahanta, documents the collaborative conservation activities of the women from Dadara and Pasaria, inspired by Barman’s initiative. It has been screened at nine international film festivals, earning accolades, including the Best Documentary award.

Produced by PI Entertainment, the team includes scriptwriter Indrani Baruah, editors Samujjal Kashyap and Gautam Mazumdar, and cinematographers Amiya Ranjan Das, Joyprakash Chakravarty, and Manas Sagra. Nabarun Borah handled the music and final mixing, while subtitles were provided by Jaideep Majumder. The film was produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, with post-production carried out at Kadambari Creations.

The 70th National Film Award 2022 was presented on Tuesday, October 8, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, recognising the film's impactful portrayal of conservation efforts. The Special Mention award is presented annually by the National Film Development Corporation of India and was instituted in 1978 during the 26th National Film Awards, honouring short films produced in all Indian languages. Recipients receive a certificate of merit.
