Owner of Surat-based coaching centre where a massive fire broke out yesterday arrested

GUWAHATI: A day after a massive fire broke out in a coaching centre in Surat, Gujarat, the police on May 25 have arrested the owner of the centre, where approximately 21 people, including students and teachers died. 

According to The Hindu, Surat Police Commissioner, Satish Sharma told that the police arrested Bhargav Bhutani, owner of the coaching centre in Sarthana area of Surat.

An FIR has also been lodged against the builder of the coaching centre, who built two additional floors without necessary permissions and covered the terrace of the building with fibre canopy.

In the unfortunate incident, more than 15 people were injured, of which many are critical and fighting for their lives in various hospitals of the city.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 p.m. on the ground floor of the building and soon spread to the third and fourth floors of Takshashila Arcade in Sarthana area of the city. Since the walls and roof of the coaching institute on the top floor were made of plastic, victims on the higher floors were trapped and they tried to jump off the building. 

It should be noted that Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, has ordered an inquiry and announced compensation of Rs. 4 lakh for the families of each victim.
