Over 60 Spas, Unisex Salons Of Guwahati To Be Inspected By GMC

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has reportedly made a list of several spas and unisex salons that have been either functioning without a trade license or have been conducting unlawful activities.

GMC officials informed G Plus that the list contains the names of about 65 establishments, many of which are suspected to be functioning illegally.

"The list contains 65 names. We have received complaints of illegal activities being conducted in some of these, few others are functioning without proper trade licenses. Not all are necessarily at fault but there are many well known establishments. We will be undertaking inspection drives on these, and necessary action will be taken if found guilty," said the official.

The Corporation had conducted regular inspections against violators previously, in which several spas and unisex salons were penalised and sealed. However, all drives were halted due to the prevalence of the Model Code of Conduct  prior to the GMC elections.

Following the elections, the Corporation has again geared up to resume the drives.

GMC Commissioner Devashish Sharma told the media that there are several spas and unisex salons who are working legally and as per norms but many others have flouting norms.

"The GMC is yet to collect its revenue from many establishments and our officials will be undertaking measures to collect these from the tax defaulters. The Corporation will ensure that all GMC by-laws are followed by traders and businesses," he said.

On April 29, the Health and Enforcement Branches of the GMC conducted a raid and sealed a business firm named M/S Unique Hair & Spa situated at Dona Planet, Bhangagarh, for violation of terms and conditions while obtaining the online instant trade license.
