Over 300 Hectares Of Cropland Still Affected By Assam Floods

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam is gradually improving, but a significant portion of cropland, measuring 315.40 hectares, continues to be affected by the deluge.

Over the past 24 hours, the number of districts hit by the flood has risen to six, with three additional districts joining the list of affected areas.

According to the latest report published by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on July 6, the districts of Biswanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur are the newly affected regions. The authority's report from Thursday had identified Bajali, Kamrup, and Dhemaji districts as being impacted by the flood.

While no rivers are currently flowing above the danger level, the number of revenue circles affected has increased by six, bringing the total count to 12. In Biswanath, Dhemaji, Jorhat, and Kamrup, two revenue circles each have been affected, while Bajali and Lakhimpur have one affected revenue circle each.

The flood has affected a total of 71 villages, as reported by ASDMA. However, the number of affected individuals decreased to 5,144 on Thursday from 6,932 on Wednesday. Notably, no people are currently under the flood's impact in Biswanath and Kamrup districts. Unfortunately, the area of affected cropland has increased from 165.70 hectares to 315.40 hectares.

No casualties or missing persons have been reported in the last 24 hours. Nevertheless, the number of affected animals, including large livestock, small livestock, and poultry, has risen from 6,980 to 12,705.

Additionally, one embankment in Nagaon district has been affected by the flood, further complicating the situation for local residents. Efforts to manage the flood situation and provide assistance to affected areas continue as authorities work to mitigate the damage caused by the deluge.
