Over 1000 Members of Five Karbi Anglong Militant Groups Surrender Arms in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The government of Assam in collaboration with Assam Police organised the arms laying down ceremony today, i.e. on February 23, 2021 where five militant groups of Karbi Angling district participated.


More than a thousand people from among the militant outfits - PDCK, KLNLF, KPLT, KLF, UPLA from the Karbi Anglong district participated in the arms laying down ceremony in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium situated at Panjabari, Guwahati.


"As a result of this program, a number of sophisticated arms have fallen under our hands. It is an important matter that should be noted, as possession of such sophisticated arms is inappropriate," said Assam Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.


Moreover, the government will rehabilitate the members who have joined mainstream under the revised Rehabilitation Scheme which promises to give Rs 6000 per month as stipend and a one time grant of Rs 4 Lakh at the end of three years, subject to their good behaviour.
