Opposition Parties Brainstorm In Guwahati To Strategise Seat Sharing For 2024 Lok Sabha Election

GUWAHATI: A significant political meeting is on the horizon in Guwahati, as 12 opposition parties from Assam are set to gather at Hotel Lily today, as per reports.

The primary agenda for their discussions is expected to be the allocation of seats for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April-May. This meeting will reportedly centre on devising a strategic seat-sharing arrangement.

The 12 political parties slated to partake in the meeting encompass a diverse political spectrum. They include Raijor Dal, CPI (M), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI, CPI (ML), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jatiya Dal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has already made notable progress in its preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The APCC has compiled a list of 84 potential candidates, which has been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for its official approval.

However, not all opposition parties are content with the APCC's approach. The decision by APCC to field candidates in all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam has raised concerns and is likely to feature prominently in the discussions among the opposition parties during today’s meeting.
