One Killed & 14 Injured In Devastating Fire At Brick Kiln In Kamrup's Pakorkona

GUWAHATI: A massive fire broke out at an FNB brick kiln in Pakorkona, Kamrup, late last night on March 28, following a gas cylinder explosion inside the workers' dormitory. The incident left about 14 people, including men, women, and an infant, with severe burn injuries, among whom one is feared dead, raising fears that the number of casualties could rise.

The explosion triggered chaos, with local residents rushing to assist in rescue operations. Firefighters from Hajo, with the help of locals, worked tirelessly to douse the flames and prevent further damage. Despite their efforts, multiple workers sustained critical burns and were rushed to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in several ambulances for urgent medical treatment.

Talking to GPlus, a police official from Hajo said, "14 severely injured victims have been admitted to GMCH’s emergency unit, where doctors are closely monitoring their condition. We are also getting the reports that one among of the victims succumbed to their injuries, but we have not gotten any official statement."

The cramped living conditions in the workers' quarters have reportedly raised concerns about fire safety regulations at the facility.

Authorities have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
