GUWAHATI: IPS Officer Tapan Deka is most likely going to be the next DGP of Assam.
He is a 1988 IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre and is working as the Joint Director, NE, Intelligence Bureau (IB) to handle the NRC/CAB situation.

The IPS officer was an AASU leader during the Assam Agitation between 1980-1986. In addition, he also handled the 1993-2001 ULFA-related counter-insurgency operations in Assam.
He was also the top spy of the country in Washington, USA between 2012-2015. Deka has also headed the global and national anti-terrorism wing of the IB agency.
