GUWAHATI: In a heartwarming reunion, Suren Kalita, a 70-year-old man from Bokra village in Assam's Kamrup district, was finally brought back to his family after 12 long years. Kalita had left his home in search of work over a decade ago, and his family had lost all hope of seeing him again.
Kalita's life took a dramatic turn when he was rescued by Puri police after he was found wandering the streets of Pipili. Initial communication with him proved challenging due to the language barrier.
However, upon hearing Kalita mention “Assam” several times, Puri police contacted their counterparts in Guwahati. They shared Kalita's photograph and were soon able to connect him with his family.
As a result of their interaction with Kamalpur police, they discovered that Kalita had been missing for an astonishing 12 years. The news of Kalita's recovery reached Kamalpur's BJP MLA, Diganta Kalita, who promptly sent a representative to Puri to bring him back home.
Upon his return, Kalita received a traditional welcome. Choyon Kalita, his wife, expressed her gratitude to the Odisha Police for reuniting them after such a long separation.
