To take State Government’s initiatives forward for preserving Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah’s heritage residence at Sambalpur, the Odisha Government today assured that the heritage property would be preserved as it would desist from any action leading to demolition of the heritage building.

Deputy Commissioner, Sambalpur Samarth Verma informed this to Assam’s Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, who are visiting Odisha as per Chief Minister Sonowal’s direction to take up the matter with the Government there.

Both Doley and Goswami on Monday met Deputy Commissioner, Sambalpur and conveyed State Government’s keen desire for preserving the residence of the literary doyen of Assam. They have also visited Sahityarathi’s residence and interacted with local organizations. The duo will meet Odisha Chief Minister today as part of their mission.

It is to be noted that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 27 talked to his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik over phone and requested him for taking a proactive step for preservation of the residence which is intrinsically associated with the emotions of the people of Assam. Responding to Sonowal’s request Patnaik assured to do the needful for the protection and preservation of Bezbaroa’s residence at Sambalpur.
