GUWAHATI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will no longer conduct recruitment exams starting 2025, as it will focus exclusively on higher education entrance exams. This development was shared by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday, December 17.

The decision follows examination reforms recommended by a high-level panel formed earlier this year to address recurring issues such as exam leaks and cancellations. The changes come after recent controversies, including the alleged leak of the NEET medical entrance exam and glitches in other recruitment tests.

Speaking to reporters, Pradhan said, “NTA will be limited to conducting only entrance exams for higher education and will not conduct any recruitment exams from next year.”

Pradhan further announced plans to restructure the NTA in 2025, creating at least ten new posts and introducing reforms to ensure error-free testing. “The agency will undergo significant changes to enhance its functioning and reliability,” he added.

The government is also deliberating with the Health Ministry on whether exams like NEET should transition from pen-and-paper formats to Computer-Based Tests (CBT).

Additionally, discussions are underway to adopt technology-driven and computer-adaptive testing methods for entrance exams in the future.
