Jaisalmer Man Arrested For Spying For Pakistan’s ISI

GUWAHATI: Indian security agencies arrested a man from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Thursday, May 1 for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), days after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives. The accused is identified as Pathan Khan.

Authorities had detained Khan nearly a month earlier and had been questioning him since. He now faces charges under The Official Secrets Act, 1923, for leaking sensitive information related to India’s defence and border security.

According to reports, Khan had travelled to Pakistan in 2013 and maintained contact with ISI operatives thereafter. He is suspected of sharing sensitive military and border-related information, particularly concerning defence positions along the Jaisalmer International Border.

Officials allege that Khan made multiple visits to Pakistan following his initial trip and maintained a direct communication channel with ISI officers. His actions, according to investigators, posed a serious threat to national security and potentially aided Pakistan’s military planning in the region.

The arrest is part of a broader clampdown by Indian forces on individuals suspected of supporting foreign espionage networks. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in heavy civilian casualties, security and intelligence agencies have intensified efforts to identify and dismantle ISI’s covert operations across India.
Investigations are ongoing to trace his contacts and any wider network he may be part of.
