NRC Data of 3.3 Cr Applicants Back Online

GUWAHATI: The National Register of Citizens (NRC) data of the final list which went offline from its official website on February 12, is now back online on its website.

The data went offline due to non-renewal of contract with the IT firm Wipro, the data stood offline.

Wipro had stated that due to the non-payment of subscription costs which is Rs 3 lakh per month and another pending amount of Rs 70 crore was the reason why people couldn’t check the status of their citizenship.

Wipro said the IT Services Contract was not renewed by the authorities upon its expiry in October, 2019, however, as a gesture of goodwill continued to pay the hosting service fee until January-end 2020.

For the past 10 days, if someone clicked on the space of the NRC website stating ‘Result for all NRC applicants as per Draft NRC & Supplementary list of Inclusion and Exclusion’ (Final NRC) Link 1 & Link, one would see nothing, except one message ‘this page can’t be reached’.

Earlier, the NRC exercise was carried out in Assam under the direct supervision of the apex court. The NRC update process was carried out during the tenure of IAS officer and state coordinator Prateek Hajela.
