GUWAHATI: The deadline for filing claims and objections for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been extended till December 15 by the Supreme Court of India. People whose names were not included in the complete NRC draft can now apply for the same.

Moreover, Supreme Court also allowed the claimants to use the five documents that NRC State Coordinator, Prateek Hajela had earlier objected to.

The five documents suggested by Hajela not to be used for claiming inclusion in the NRC are:

* Extract of NRC, 1951

* Extract/certified copy of Electoral Rolls up to the midnight of March 24, 1971 (midnight).

* Citizenship Certificate issued by competent authority (up to March 24, 1971 (midnight).

* Refugee registration certificate issued up to March 24, 1971 (midnight).

* Ration cards issued by a competent authority with official seal and signature up to March 24, 1971 (midnight).
