The notification states that the first phase of polling for the General Elections is set for April 19, 2024. As such, the Commission has directed District Commissioners (DC) of Returning Officer (RO) districts, where polling is scheduled for the first phase, not to declare a local holiday on March 26, 2024, in observance of Dol Jatra.

The following districts Sonitpur, Nagaon, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Majuli, and Charaideo have been included in this directive.

The decision to restrict the declaration of a local holiday on Dol Jatra aims to ensure the smooth conduct of the nomination process in the above districts for the first phase of polling.

Additionally, a local holiday has been declared in Kamrup Metro district on March 26 on account of Dol Jatra and all State Government Offices and Educational Institutions will remain closed in the district.
