GUWAHATI: The incident of theft from an ATM in Bhetapara Chariali on December 19 turned out to be false as reported by the media on Wednesday.
As per media reports, locals of the area caught a thief who was allegedly trying to steal a battery from an ATM in the area and bashed him before handing him to the authorities.
The report has turned out to be false, as confirmed by police who clarified saying that the thief attempted to steal an e-rickshaw battery, when he was caught by the locals of the area.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Hatigaon Police Station said, “The thief was trying to steal an e-rickshaw battery not the battery from the ATM. We do not know how this rumour spread. The alleged has been taken into custody.”
Investigations are underway as we await further details.
