GUWAHATI: On Thursday, September 10 the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet in a case related to the killing of the station head of Bordumsa, sub-inspector of Bhaskar Kalita, by United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) cadres in May 2018, stated a press release issued by the agency.

Initially, till June 2019 the case was investigated by Assam Police which was later taken over by NIA that re-registered the same as RC 09/2018/NIA/GUW.

As per the report, on May 4, 2018, the then officer-in-charge of Bordumsa police station sub-inspector Bhaskar Kalita received a specific input regarding the presence of suspected ULFA terrorists inside a house at Kujupathar Village, Police station Bordumsa, District Tinsukia, Assam.

Following the input, a joint operation was launched by the police and para-military against the ULFA militants. Militants hiding inside a locked house started firing at the police indiscriminately, which resulted in the death of sub-inspector Bhaskar Kalita. Taking the advantage of poor light conditions, the ULFA militants managed to escape from there into the nearby jungle. They also snatched an AK-47 from the deceased police officer while escaping.

Brave-heart Bhaskar Kalita posthumously received Independence Day Police Medal for Gallantry in 2019.
