NH Guwahati Launches Kidney Transplant Programme For The Benefits Of Patients In NE

GUWAHATI: Narayana Superspeciality Hospital launched the kidney transplant program on October 17, 2019 completing the health system’s comprehensive offerings. 

Gopal Das aged 27 years from Nalbari district had been battling kidney failure at an young age for quite long time requiring dialysis and was under treatment of Dr Arunima Mahanta, Consultant Nephrologists at NSH Amingaon . His mother aged 55 donated her Kidney to save her son’s life. 

Dr. Bappa Mukhopadhyay, Medical Supervisor at NSH, Amingaon gave a small brief about the kidney Transplant Surgery of Mr Das which was undertaken by the hospital on 22nd September, 2019 and congratulated the entire team on its successful completion. Dr Saikat Mallik (Consultant Laparoscopic and Renal transplant Surgeon) further said that Mr Gopal Das the kidney recipient had a very smooth recovery after surgery and discharged from hospital within 10 days. He is on regular close follow up. He also emphasized that transplant is the best modality of treatment for both quality and quantity of life in patients with chronic renal failure.

Dr S W Hassan (Consultant Urologist) has expressed happiness over the quick recovery of the mother for the key hole (Minimal Access) method of operation and going back to normal activity of the donor. Dr A Mahanta also said that equipped with advance technology and equipments the department of nephrology at NH Guwahati can treat different kind of kidney diseases with post transplant complications and perform hemo-dialysis with 22 machines and kidney biopsies.

Dr S Mallik summed up quoting that the mother left the legacy of life by donating organ and the son adopted the same very efficiently.

Mr Ajit Bellamkonda, Facility Director of the hospital informed the press that the prestigious transplant program of the hospital will be continued under care of multidisciplinary team of doctors lead by Dr Saikat Mallik (Consultant Minimal Access and Renal Transplant) , Dr S W Hassan ( Consultant Urologist) , Dr Arunima Mahanta ( Consultant Nephrologists) and Dr Hamid Hilani ( Consultant Nephrologists) .
