GUWAHATI: Subhendu Kumar Choudhary, the Principal Chief Safety Officer (PCSO) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), was swept away by the swift currents of the Lohit River while performing a ritual at the holy Parshuram Kund on Sunday, November 24. The incident occurred at around 12:45 PM.

Choudhary, 55, had been on an official inspection tour from NFR headquarters in Maligaon, Guwahati, to Tinsukia, which began on November 22. Accompanied by his wife, he visited Pasighat and Dambuk before reaching Parshuram Kund on November 24.
According to police reports, Choudhary was participating in a holy dip when the currents carried him away. Rescue efforts were intensified on Monday, involving teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police and fishers.
An aerial search has also been launched to locate him. Despite these extensive efforts, Choudhary remains missing.
Senior railway and district officials are currently on-site to oversee the operations, which include local personnel and military support.
