Newly Rechristened Elephant 'Krishna' Dies in Captivity

GUWAHATI: The newly named elephant ‘Krishna‘ died in captivity at the Orang National Park in Assam’s Darrang district on November 17.

According to reports, the said elephant was on a rampage in Assam’s Goalpara district and was later tranquillized by a team led by Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika along with the forest department.

The forest department later renamed the elephant as ‘Krishna’.

Preliminary reports indicate it was died either due to depression or use of more high those medicine during tranquilization. 

However, details will be available after postmortem of the giant by veterinarian Dr Kushal Sarma and Assam State Zoo veterinarian Dr Panchami Sarma which is expected around 2 PM today.

Although the forest officials were planning to release the elephant in wild, later they had decided to captivate the elephant and shifted to Orang National Park.
