GUWAHATI: The newly-born cubs which became the limelight for the Assam Zoo died within 72 hours. The cubs were born to Meena (she-panther) and Mohan (panther) on 8th September.
According to zoo authorities, Meena was a first-time mother and did not know how to take care of her cubs. So, she might have got confused about how to raise the cubs in the enclosure.
Meena was rescued from Dibrugarh in December 2017. She strayed into a village and was injured, and was then brought to the Assam State Zoo.
While the father of the cubs is zoo-raised black panther Mohan, who was rescued five years ago. At that time, Mohan was just four months old, and since then he has been raised in the zoo.
